Praise God!
Worship with Tasha Cobbs Leonard singing “You Know My Name”
Have you ever experienced the joy of praising the LORD and all He’s done for you? When He answered your prayers, or provided for you when you needed it, or even just showed His love, grace and mercy in your situation? Did you, in those moments, shout “Praise God!” from the depths of your soul? In Psalm 145:1, 10-21, David praised God for who He is and for all that He has done for us. And he called on all of us to join with him in praising the LORD forever and ever. I pray that you will reflect upon all that God is and all that God has been to you and that your praise of Him will be glorious! Amen
I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever. (Psalm 145:1)
David, the king of Israel, addressed God as the King and as his God (Elohim = the God of Israel) vowed to praise Him… forever.
All your works praise you, LORD;
your faithful people extol you.
They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does. (Psalm 145:10-13)
David switched to the intimate relational name of God, calling Him LORD. He said that all of the LORD’s creation praised Him. And all of His people praised Him because of His mighty acts, His glorious and everlasting kingdom, and His dominion. The LORD has proved to be trustworthy and faithful to fulfill all of His promises.
The LORD upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing. (Psalm 145:14-16)
The LORD lifts up the fallen and oppressed. All of His people look to Him for His provision. He is the creator and source of provision for every living thing, and He satisfies the desires of His creation.
The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
The LORD watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD.
Let every creature praise his holy name
for ever and ever. (Psalm 145:17-21)
David closed this psalm by recapping his praise of the LORD and his reasons for doing so. The LORD is righteous and faithful in all of His ways, near to anyone who calls Him, a provider, a Savior, a protector and the final Judge of the wicked. David praised God for the ways in which He takes care of His people, and he called upon every creature to praise God’s name…. Forever!
This psalm is the last of David’s in the book of Psalms. It is one of the closing psalms in the book, which are all dedicated to the high praise of our God. After a lifetime of praying to God, depending on God, watching God’s faithfulness, righteousness, love, mercy and grace…. David couldn’t contain his praise of God! And he exhorted all of God’s people to join him in forever praise of the One who knows us intimately and wants to be known intimately by His children. In David’s last psalm and his last testament to a lifetime with God, his message was clear to all of us… Praise God! And never stop praising Him.
