What is Lent? Why is it celebrated?

This year the Lenten season begins on Wednesday February 22nd and ends on Saturday April 8th. Below is an excerpt from Crosswalk.com “What is Lent and why is it celebrated?”. You can read the full article here. https://www.crosswalk.com/faith/spiritual-life/lent-101-honoring-the-sacrifice-of-jesus-1382259.html

Every year, Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and is always 46 days before Easter Sunday. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration.

Lent is more frequently observed as a solemn time of preparation for remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. From the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday till Lent ends on Easter Sunday, Lent is traditionally a time of fasting or giving something up, known as abstinence. It also includes prayer, confession and almsgiving. Lent gives us time to prepare our minds and hearts for remembering the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Stay tuned as I will post more about Lent as we go through this season…

Blessings,

Rev Glenn
