The LORD Reigns
Wars and conflicts are a constant, and peace is elusive in our world. The reason is because people are ever seeking to grasp and hold on to power. But the psalmist in Psalm 93, recognized that the greatest power is the LORD’s and He reigns over all of His creation… forever. I pray that we will know and put our faith in the LORD almighty, who is sovereign forever. Amen
The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. (Psalm 93:1-2)
The psalmist pronounced that the LORD reigns. He reigns in strength and majesty. He reigns over the world that He created and His reign over it is firmly established and eternal.
The seas have lifted up, LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the LORD on high is mighty. (Psalm 93:3-4)
The psalmist witnessed that nature lifted its voice in the pounding waves and thundering breakers, but that the Lord is mightier than the sea and reigns in control of it even with all of its power.
Your statutes, LORD, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days. (Psalm 93:5)
Finally, the psalmist praised God for His statutes and holiness. He said that God’s statutes (word) stands firm. In other words, they are true forever. And the beauty of God’s holiness adorns (makes more attractive) His house for all eternity.
What a blessing and a comfort it is to know that God still reigns over all that He created and will continue to reign sovereign for all eternity. People and nations will continue to fight over power because the world is fallen. But the knowledge that God is still in control and that His promises are true, should provide us with peace and hope for the future. As chaotic as this world and our lives may become, we have this blessed assurance…. The LORD reigns!
